Wednesday, May 13, 2009 from 9:30 AM - 4:00 PM (ET)
On May 13th 2009, Boston Common Asset Management, Calvert, CREA, and the Interfaith Center on Corporate Responsibility will host a meeting highlighting key environmental and social risks associated with cotton production and steps organizations can take to help eliminate the use of child labor in cotton production in Uzbekistan.
You are cordially invited to join us for this meeting which will go from 9:30 am to 4:00 pm. In the morning you will receive a briefing on the situation in Uzbekistan from leading experts in labor issues and human rights. In addition, representatives from brands and retailers will share what they have done within their companies, with suppliers and with key trade association allies. Challenges and opportunities will be addressed when raising awareness of the situation and implementing procedures to prevent the use of Uzbek cotton until the use of child labor is eliminated. In the afternoon you will have a chance to brainstorm with companies, investors, non-governmental organizations and other stakeholders about strategies for making constructive change.
We hope you will join us for this important and informative event. If you are interested in attending the event please register online by April 29th at responsiblecottondc.eventbrite.com. Contact Katherine Kassing at cotton@asyousow.org or at (415... if you have questions about registration, the event or need additional information.
To spur productive dialogue at the meeting, we are asking in the registration for participants to note which discussion group they would like to participate in and we will send you materials to review in advance.
